"The university is not in a position to comment on the vice-chancellor’s leave of absence," a university spokesperson told ABC News. "The chancellor’s decision was his own and the university is not in a position to comment on his reasons" the spokesperson said. "On behalf of the [university] council, I thank Rear Adminal Scarce for his significant contribution to the university over almost six years," the statement reads.
