Following a directive from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) National Executive Council (NEC), the FCT council has instructed workers in the six area councils to go on strike from December 1, owing to the failure to implement the N70,000 national minimum wage.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) FCT council has instructed workers in the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to go on strike from December 1. This decision is in line with a directive issued by the NLC National Executive Council (NEC) at a meeting on November 8. The NEC has asked for the implementation of the N70,000 national minimum wage , which the area councils have not responded to adequately.

The NLC's State Administrative Council, meeting on November 12, unanimously decided to adhere to the national strike directive if the minimum wage is not implemented before November 30. The council also noted ongoing delays in the payment of pending entitlements and outstanding arrears for primary school teachers
