The National Judicial Council (NJC) has rejected the Benue State House of Assembly's resolution recommending the removal of Justice Maurice Ikpambese as Chief Judge. The NJC deemed the recommendation unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional, emphasizing that disciplinary procedures for judicial officers are clearly outlined in the Nigerian constitution and must be followed. The council stated that Justice Ikpambese remains in office until the allegations against her are investigated and due legal processes are completed.

The National Judicial Council , NJC , has overruled the Benue State House of Assembly on its purported resolution recommending the removal of the state’s Chief Judge , Justice Maurice Ikpambese, from office. NJC , faulting the recommendation as unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional, drew the attention of the Benue State lawmakers to the clear and unambiguous constitutional provisions governing the discipline and removal of judicial officers in the country.
