have slammed the family of late former Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, after pictures on social media showed the grave of the former Nigeria captain was in a dilapidated state.

Keshi, one of only two Africans to win the Africa Cup of Nations as player and coach, died on June 7, 2016, of cardiac arrest at 54, and was buried on July 29, 2016, in his hometown Ilah, in Delta State. The flowers planted around the grave are all withered, while the metal with the inscription “SKIPPO” has become rusty.

Nigerians, who reacted after seeing the pictures on Twitter, exonerated the Nigeria Football Federation and the sports ministry, stating that his family should have maintained the grave of the former Anderlecht defender. “Why must we blame the NFF for this? Are we saying there is no responsible person or people in his family to watch after his grave,” @Oluwatosinmi27 wrote on Twitter after seeing the picture uploaded by Benin-based sports journalist, Wole Opatola, who visited the site.

“I hope his family are not waiting for NFF to tell them how to treat their son in his grave. Leave entitlement mentality, his family owe him a good tomb,” Monsurah Olatunji added. “He served a purpose, doesn’t mean the purpose must be responsible after his demise . More so, he wasn’t offering free service during that time and didn’t pass on while on duty. It is his family’s responsibility to do as they wish with his tomb,” stataed Kola Agunbiade. All rights reserved.
