The Nigeria Police Force has asked the country’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to prosecute the Kogi Local Government Chairman, Joseph Omuya Salami, who was caught on camera destroying electoral materials and intimidating INEC officers during the February 25, 2023 election. Recall that SaharaReporters published the video of Salami who is the Chairman of Adavi Local Government Area, where he was filmed while destroying votes belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial Candidate for Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan.

Escorted by some armed officers of the Nigeria Police Force and thugs, Salami had stormed polling unit 034 located along Eid Prayer Ground, Nagazi/Farm Centre Ward and Polling Unit 033 Mikab Model School, Nagazi/Farm Center Ward, Adavi Local Government Area of the state where he destroyed polling materials, ballot papers, intimidated voters and harassed electoral officials.
