Vendors of a popular Nigerian e-commerce company have accused the company of outrageously extorting them through excessive commission charges for available and out-of-stock items. The online mall was founded in July 2012 with headquarters in Gbagada, Lagos State. Some of the vendors who spoke with SaharaReporters alleged that Konga budgeted N7 billion for its 2023 fiscal year and out of desperation to meet the budget, the company became “ruthless and brutal” with its commission.

“Also, I'm avoiding returns. The more orders one has, the more returns the person gets. They hardly deliver items. The vendor said that sometimes they might buy a product today and by the following day, the price could rise. “Konga just recruited Jumia staff who were laid off so they are making stricter and very ridiculous rules. If you have an item that is out of stock or that has changed in price, they will charge the vendor times four of the supposed commission.

“They charged me some money recently and when I challenged them, they said they would not step down and that the charges must be times four.” “The worst thing is that they don't deliver items. Out of 10 items, they might deliver five and no reason is given. Though some buyers are not serious, Konga’s staff are just very lazy to deliver and Konga management does not go to their Facebook page to see the complaints of buyers.
