Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Thursday morning
1. The National Judicial Council has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria . The NJC made the call at an emergency meeting on Friday in Abuja. The Council also recommended to Buhari names of judges to be appointed as Chief Judges and Grand Kadis for eight states – Lagos, Anambra, Ebonyi, Niger, Taraba, Kano, and Jigawa states.
3. Operatives of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt’s Zonal Office, have arrested seventeen suspected internet fraudsters at their hotel hideout in Warri, Delta State. A statement by EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, said they were arrested on Wednesday in a sting operation, with different exotic cars.
5. The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God , Pastor E. A. Adeboye, has said that the fact that he is quiet, does not mean he is silent on national issues. In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the church, Olaitan Olubiyi, Adeboye explained that there are different ways of responding to issues affecting the country. The cleric was reacting to a protest staged at the Redemption Camp on Monday by some veteran entertainers.
7. Nigerian Governors have kicked against oil subsidy to marketers by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation . Kayode Fayemi, chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum , made the demand when he led a delegation to Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director.
