1. The European Union Mission has stressed the need to urgently improve the electoral process in Nigeria. The EU EOM Chief Observer, Maria Arena, who said this on Saturday in Abuja at a news conference on the release of the final report of the 2019 General Elections, said the EU final report contained 30 recommendations to improve future electoral processes in Nigeria.
2. The Presidency has welcomed the report of the European Union on the 2019 general elections in Nigeria, promising to analyse it fully and act on the recommendations in the best interest of the country. Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, who made this position known in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, disclosed that the EU observers were invited to the country by the Independent National Electoral Commission , and welcomed by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. 3. The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kaduna state chapter says it will challenge the legality of the religious bill recently passed by the former State House of Assembly, in court. The CAN state chairman, Reverend John Joseph Hayab, who spoke on the religious bill to newsman in Kaduna, said, “We are going to court over the illegal action of the former lawmakers in the state who hurriedly signed the Religious Bill into law hurriedly before they left.”The President’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Ahmad Bashir, said the money was meant to upgrade Nigerian universities’ infrastructure. 5. The European Union Election Observation Mission in Nigeria on Saturday said that it knew nothing about the Independent National Electoral Commission server that was allegedly used to transmit results of the 2019 general elections. While briefing newsmen in Abuja on the EU EOM’s report, the Deputy Chief Observer for the EU, Hannah Roberts said the Mission relied on results that were released by INEC. 6. The Consul-General of the Nigerian Consulate in Johannesburg, Mr Godwin Adama, says the mission will protest killings and high-handedness of the South African police against Nigerians. The envoy, who described the persistent killing of Nigerians as unacceptable, said the issue had become worrisome and deserved urgent intervention of the South African authorities. 7. Rochas Okorocha, Senator representing Imo West has warned the State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha to stop harassing his wife and children. Okorocha, who is the immediate past governor of the state said harassing his wife and children by the Ihedioha-led state government was unacceptable. 8. he Kaduna State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Saturday adjourned hearing in the main petition of the People’s Democratic Party to Monday, June 17. Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Ibrahim Bako, announced the adjournment at the resumed hearing in the main petition of the PDP on Saturday in Kaduna. 9. Goods worth millions of naira were midnight of Friday destroyed at the popular Orita-Aperin market in Ibadan, the state capital. The cause of the fire incident, which razed the market, is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report on Saturday. 10. Nigeria’s final warm-up match before the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, will be against Senegal on Sunday evening.
