Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Sunday morning

1. The Department of State Services has debunked reports that its personnel attached to the President killed the intruder that tried to break the security cordon on President Muhammadu Buhari at Argungu, Kebbi State. DSS denial was contained in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Dr Peter Afunanya. It said the suspect, one Mohammed Jammil Guddare, made a futile attempt to have an unauthorized handshake with the President.

3. FIFA has recommended that all international football matches scheduled between March and April be postponed, due to the spread of the new coronavirus. In a statement on Friday, the world football governing body also said clubs would be allowed to refuse to send their players to national teams within that time frame. FIFA also confirmed it was working on rescheduling qualifying matches for the 2022 World Cup in both Asia and South America.

5. Tanko Salihu Yakasai, Special Adviser on Media to Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has condemned the cartoon depicting the state as a cage. A cartoonist, Mustapha Bulama, on Saturday, posted an image which showed a character of Ganduje in a cage while pointing at that of the dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II. Sanusi walking away told Ganduje to ‘’stay there.’’ Yakasai has described the drawing as a mockery and an insult to the people of Kano.

7. Suspected cult members reportedly killed three people and dumped their corpses close to the main gate of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, in the early hours of Friday. Report said the assailants set ablaze the corpses of their victims. The report claims the killing may be a reprisal to the killing of a final year student of the Benue State University, Makurdi.
