Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Saturday morning
1. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has urged security agencies to arrest the suspended Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property , Okoi Obono-Obla. Obono-Obla, former Special Assistant on Prosecution to President Muhammadu Buhari, is on the ICPC wanted list for alleged corruption and abuse of office.
3. The Supreme Court on Friday, ruled against the family of the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, who wanted to regain access to his bank accounts in the UK, Switzerland, Jersey, Liechenstein and Luxembourg. The accounts were blocked following a directive by the Nigerian government in 1999, via a letter written by the then Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation , Kanu Agabi .
5. An Army corporal has killed a Mobile Police Officer, Sergeant Rowland Tafida in Borno State. The homicide occurred after a face-off among officers of both security agencies over a gir at Makara Area of Gwoza Local Government Area . The corporal opened fire on the deceased and his colleagues with an Anti-Aircraft Gun . The shooting also damaged some facilities at the Limankara Police Training Camp.
7. Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, has said that Nigeria would have been dead and gone if not for the election of his principal in 2015. According to Adesina, Boko Haram terrorists had already taken over the entire North and were heading to the South before Buhari intervened. Adesina’s claim was contained in an article he entitled Insecurity: What Buhari has done and is doing.
