Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

1. Ikot-Abasi Local Council of Akwa Ibom State was during the week thrown into mourning after angry soldiers on duty at Utaewa water birch in the area reportedly killed one Otobong Jumbo, 45, a cement merchant. Report had it that one of the wives of the deceased, Enefiok Jumbo, was beaten by the soldiers and upon his husband’s intervention, he was hit severally with gun butts until he became unconscious and later died at the hospital.

3. The All Progressives Congress has alleged that there are plans by top officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission to favour Governor Nyesom Wike during Monday’s resumption of collation of results of March 9 governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers State.

5. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra , Nnamdi Kanu has dismissed the news of the revocation of his bail as announced recently by the Justice Binta Nyako led federal High Court in Abuja, describing it as silly and meaningless. Kanu in a special broadcast on Saturday night also dared the federal government to come for him if they can.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its Katsina State governorship candidate in the March 9 elections, Yakubu Lado, have formally filed a petition before the election petitions tribunal. They are challenging the emergence of incumbent Governor Aminu Masari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as winner in the fiercely-contested polls.
