Jibrin, who was arrested since November 2020, has not been charged to a court martial.

A Nigerian Navy personnel, Abubakar Jibrin, has been locked up at the Nigerian Navy’s base, Ship Pathfinder, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for over 200 days, SaharaReporters learnt.

A relation to the detained officer told SaharaReporters that Jibrin was arrested for offering a lift to someone who was suspected to have been in possession of illegal arms about seven years ago.He was subsequently set free but the officer remained in custody, the relative lamented.Speaking with SaharaReporters, the relative said, “Jibrin, a navy officer has been locked up for over 200 days in an underground cell for committing literally no offence.

“They later arrested the person, charged him to court and the person was found not guilty while Jibrin is still there for over eight months now. “He has not done anything wrong; they should take him to court so his lawyer can defend him. At least, he will be able to see his family, his wife and children. As it stands now, his children have been withdrawn from their schools due to the inability of the wife to pay school fees. The wife has no access to him. Even we, the relatives, have no access to him.

“He sent an officer to me so we can know he is still alive but imprisoned over nothing. I know the Chief of Naval Staff is not aware of what is happening. I want Jibrin to be released from the dungeon where they kept him. If they know they have nothing personal against him, they should charge him to court, he is still a suspect as of now.”
