The Nigerian Armed Forces have intensified their operations across multiple regions, resulting in the killing of over 30 terrorists and the rescue of several abducted victims. The operations, which took place between March 7 and March 12, targeted terrorist and criminal elements in the North East, North West, North Central, South-South and South-East regions. The Director of Defence Media Operations provided details in a weekly briefing.
The Defense Headquarters has announced that the Nigerian Armed Forces have intensified their operations across multiple regions, achieving significant successes against terrorist and criminal elements. These coordinated operations, conducted between March 7 and March 12, resulted in the elimination of over 30 terrorists, including high-value targets, and the rescue of numerous abducted victims.
Major General Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, provided details of these operations in a weekly briefing held in Abuja, highlighting the commitment and effectiveness of the troops in various theaters of operation. The operations underscore the ongoing efforts to address the security challenges faced by the nation and restore peace and stability to affected areas.\In the North East, troops under Operation HADIN KAI have been instrumental in disrupting terrorist activities, particularly in Yobe, Borno, and Adamawa States. The military successfully curtailed the movement of terrorists and effectively disrupted their critical supply lines. This resulted in the apprehension of several key operatives, including those involved in logistics, tax collection, and providing vital intelligence. Notably, on March 9, troops successfully recovered a significant cache of arms following repelled attacks in Mafa and Jere Local Government Areas of Borno State. Furthermore, simultaneous assaults on FOB Tuba and Doro Baga were decisively thwarted. In Goniri, Yobe State, troops repelled a multi-directional night attack, neutralizing more than 20 terrorists, including Abu Yusu, the Munzir of Dursula, while also recovering a variety of weapons, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and ammunition. The troops also rescued kidnapped victims and seized supplies intended for insurgent groups. In Adamawa State, swift responses to distress calls in Madagali and Maiha Local Government Areas led to the recovery of 23 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which were intended for use in terrorist operations. General Onoja also highlighted the significant impact of Operation HADIN KAI since 2015, which has seen the surrender of 122,843 insurgents, demonstrating the sustained pressure exerted on terrorist networks in the region.\Moving to other regions, Operation FANSAN YAMMA saw troops taking action against terrorists in Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States in the North West. Key operations included the rescue of abducted victims from Mpape-Kuyeri Forest along the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, showcasing the military’s dedication to protecting civilians from criminal activities. Troops also destroyed a terrorist enclave in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, further weakening their operational capabilities. In addition, the interception of ammunition and recovery of rustled cattle in Gudu and Dagozawa villages underscored the military’s efforts to combat various forms of banditry and criminality. In the North Central region, troops under Operations SAVANNAH SHIELD, ENDURING PEACE, and WHIRL STROKE maintained constant pressure on criminal and terrorist elements across Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Bauchi, Kaduna, Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, and Kogi States. These operations have led to the neutralisation of terrorists, recovery of arms, and the rescue of kidnapped victims. Notable successes include the rescue of multiple victims in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, Riyom and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau State, and the interception of explosives in Bauchi State, highlighting the military's ongoing efforts to create a safer environment. In the South-South and South-East regions, Operations DELTA SAFE and UDO KA focused on targeting criminal and separatist networks, including the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its Eastern Security Network (ESN). The operations resulted in the dismantling of illegal oil refining sites in Egbema West Local Government Area of Imo State. Suspected kidnappers were neutralized in Egoro Forest in Edo State, and the disarming of IEDs along contested routes in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State improved civilian access and safety, reflecting the military's efforts to enhance stability across the country. Major General Onoja emphasized the courage and professionalism displayed by the armed forces in these ongoing operations, acknowledging the challenges they face. He also stated that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has commended the public for providing timely intelligence and reaffirmed the military’s dedication to troop welfare, collaboration with other security agencies, and the restoration of lasting stability throughout the country
