The Nigerian government has initiated a technical evaluation of the Dadin-Kowa Dam, located in the Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State. This assessment is part of a broader effort to ensure the safety of critical water infrastructure across the country, particularly in the wake of recent flooding incidents.

Ali Ibrahim, Director of Dams and Reservoirs at the Federal Ministry of Water Resources spoke to reporters during the inspection on Wednesday. He confirmed that, based on the preliminary physical evaluation, the Dadin-Kowa Dam appears structurally safe. However, he stated the need for further, in-depth assessments to detect any internal issues.

“The inspection aims to prevent disasters similar to the recent flooding at Alau Dam in Borno State,” Ibrahim added. The technical sub-committee began its evaluation mission at Alau Dam, followed by inspections of the Mangu Dam in Plateau State. Their next destination is the Kiri Dam in Adamawa State. Ibrahim further explained that a detailed report would be compiled after all inspections, providing recommendations to prevent future threats and ensure the safety of surrounding communities.
