Professor Omiete Briggs, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Collation Officer for Port Harcourt City local government area in Rivers State in the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections, has been replaced due to death threats. Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, announced the replacement of the Collation Officer after receiving repeated death threats.

March 8, 2023On Monday, March 6, Dr. Lulu-Briggs told journalists in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, that his wife had received a series of death threats because of her INEC assignment.

Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, announced the replacement of the Collation Officer after receiving repeated death threats. Prof. Briggs was supposed to continue working as the Collation Officer for Port Harcourt City Local Government during the Saturday March 11 Governorship and House of Assembly elections, but INEC asked her to stop for safety.

In a similar event, SaharaReporters also reported that the Rivers State collation officer, Professor Charles Adias in the just concluded presidential election raised the alarm over an alleged threat to his life.
