June 14, 2023 Nigerian Army personnel fighting Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East have lamented the delay in the payment of their allowances.They also called for a review of the allowances to reflect the current economic realities of the country.

“We have families and children, some in the university, and we need these little things to assist ourselves. We have been complaining, we want to go on protest. But we are afraid because, if we protest, it will be easy for them to trace us,” another soldier corroborated. One of the personnel had in an open letter to former President Muhammadu Buhari said it had “been sleepless nights and teeth nagging since this plot come to the notice of the troops.”

“I am surprised how N45,000 monthly allowances as operational allowances has become the problem why the Nigerian economy is bad. Could it be that the Nigerian Army authorities are doing this to enrich their pocket or mere wickedness of those in the affairs of leadership to depriving the suffering soldiers the right to their allowances?
