November 1, 2022This was made known by Chief Mike Ozekhome in a statement made available to SaharaReporters on Tuesday in which the legal luminary noted that Major Oseni’s victory and freedom was as a result of a landmark appeal he filed and argued on Monday.
In obedience to Major Obot’s instruction, Oseni within a few minutes of the drilling counseled Late Corporal Collins, and invited the co-admin, who also admonished Late Corporal Collins and ordered his return to the earlier identified facility, to which he immediately complied. On February 7, 2020, the General Court Martial in its judgment sentenced Major Oseni to 10 years imprisonment and on November 24, 2020 the Army Council confirmed Major Oseni’s 10 years prison sentence.
After hearing from Major Oseni, Ozekhome in a notice of appeal dated January 28, 2021 and filed on October 11, 2021, and by leave of the Court of Appeal granted on September 28, 2021, filed six grounds of appeal on behalf of Major Oseni. In the ruling, the Appeal Court agreed with the argument of Ozekhome that the Nigerian Army did not prove the offence of manslaughter against Major Oseni.
