Afe Babalola , a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has filed a complaint against Dele Farotimi for defaming him in his book titled 'NIGERIA AND ITS CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM'. The book contains remarks Babalola considers defamatory in relation to a Supreme Court judgment on a land dispute . Babalola's law firm, Afe Babalola & Co, was solicitors for the Gbadamosi Eletu family in the case 'Major Muritala Gbadamosi Eletu & Ors V. H.R.H Oba Tijani Akinloye & Ors'.
The case involved a land dispute over 254 hectares of land in Lagos, initially sold to Gbadamosi Bamidele Eletu and later acquired by the Lagos State Government. Babalola's complaint was delivered to the Ekiti police commissioner, Adeniran Akinwale, on November 19
