The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari , says Nigeria will stand solidly behind Dr Akinwumi Adesina in his re-election bid as President of the African Development Bank.
According to a statement by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President made the pledge during a courtesy visit by Adesina to the State House in Abuja, on Tuesday.
“I didn’t say because you were a Peopless Democratic Party minister, and I belonged to the All Progressives Congress, I would withhold my support. I’ll remain consistent with you because no one has faulted the step I took on behalf of Nigeria.” The African Union had already endorsed the incumbent AfDB President as the sole candidate for the continent, though the United States had called for another probe into Adesina’s conduct as CEO of the bank.
The House made the allegation at the plenary on Tuesday based on a motion moved by the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, entitled, ‘Attempts to Tarnish the Image and Hard Earned Reputation of Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank on Trumped-Up Allegations.’
