The President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Sam Ohuabunwa, shares with TUNDE AJAJA his views on the issues surrounding the management of the COVID-19 pandemicsaid sometime in March that Nigeria

was not fully prepared for the coronavirus disease, but as of now, the virus has spread to almost all countries, including those that prepared for it. Should we still flog ourselves that we were not prepared since we would likely have had it anyway?

Until recent times, not much has been heard from the PSN on COVID-19, compared to the Nigerian Medical Association, National Association of Resident Doctors and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, why the silence? There was a Federal Vaccine Production Laboratory at Yaba, Lagos which produced vaccines for yellow fever and other diseases, would Nigeria have stood a chance to produce the vaccine if the lab was still working?

Madagascar, a nation with about 27 million people, has developed a natural product to cure the virus and it has gifted us part of it since we coudn’t help ourselves with the much we have, why did PSN oppose that gesture? About two weeks ago, testing was suspended in Kano because there were no kits, is Nigeria capable of producing them?

Does it mean if our pharmaceutical companies are funded they would have come up with those antiviral reagents or a vaccine?
