The Nigerian government has successfully submitted all necessary documents to Finland, paving the way for the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a prominent figure in the Biafra independence movement.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has submitted all necessary documentation to Finland to facilitate the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a prominent Biafra agitator facing charges related to terrorism. This development was disclosed by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, during an interview on Channels Television. “Well, I’m sure he’s cooling off somewhere. Legal action will be taken accordingly.
I don’t want to say too much, but I’m glad he’s been arrested,” Musa said. He expressed confidence in the Finnish Government taking the appropriate steps now that the required materials have been provided. Ekpa, who was arrested by Finnish authorities in November 2024 alongside four others, has been accused of incitement to violence, promoting separatist propaganda, and financing terrorism. The Lahti District Court in Finland ordered his remand on probable grounds of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria. The agitator, known for using social media to advocate for the violent secession of southeastern Nigeria, has been a central figure in the Biafra movement. His actions have drawn widespread criticism and raised concerns over security and unity in Nigeria
