Nigeria has secured promotion to Davis Cup World Group II after defeating Ghana in the first two rubbers at the ongoing Group III Africa qualifying tournament in Abuja.

The Nigerian pair of Christopher Bulus, and Michael Emmanuel defeated the Ghanaian pair of Abraham Asaba, and Isaac Nortey with identical score lines.

Regardless of the result in the third rubber, Nigeria has already won promotion to World Group II after the five-day competition, which ended, on Saturday. Zimbabwe and Namibia are the two other countries that will join Nigeria in World Group II after securing impressive wins at the event, which started last weekend in Abuja.

The minister said: “I thank the International Tennis Federation , Nigerian Tennis Federation and participating countries for having this epic qualifier at the National Stadium, Abuja. It shows we are on track to host big tennis events, even as we keep improving infrastructure-wise.
