At the 55th annual conference in Ilorin, Kwara state, Obindo criticized the government’s limited focus on mental health and the insufficient budget allocation, which is below the Abuja Declaration target of 15 percent of the national budget. Professor Owoidoho Udofia of the University of Calabar also discussed the challenges in identifying mental illnesses among Africans due to culture-specific symptoms that may be misinterpreted as physical complaints
