President Tinubu, in his June 15 letter to the House, urged expedited consideration of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Alteration) (State Police) Bill, 2026, framing it as essential to restructure the country's security architecture.
The bill aims to create a constitutional pathway for establishing State Police Services to complement the Nigeria Police Force in tackling escalating security challenges. The President noted that the legislation builds on the House's earlier work while integrating enhanced safeguards for a swift and effective dual policing system.
