Nigeria's Federal Government assures citizens of a new national carrier's imminent launch, pledging to work with the private sector for its success.
The Federal Government has assured Nigeria ns that a new national carrier will begin operations in the country soon. The newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Abubakar Kana, made this vow during the handing over ceremony organised by the ministry. He pledged to work with the minister in charge of the ministry, Festus Keyamo, to actualise a national carrier , as well as the upgrade of airports across Nigeria to international standards.
Kana, a former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Defence, said that his statement was premised upon President Bola Tinubu’s 'Renewed Hope Agenda' for the aviation sector. 'Resources are scarce; we need to embrace the private sector to support Nigeria’s aviation industry,' he added. However, he did not give an exact timeline on when the national carrier will commence operation. The outgoing Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, thanked the ministry and Nigerians for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the country. Earlier, Keyamo had announced a plan to unveil a national carrier for the country. This comes amid the failed, controversial Nigeria Air project, a supposed national carrier under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari's regime
