Nigeria has been excluded from the list of countries eligible for visa on arrival in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE government announced that the visa on arrival policy, which was implemented in October 2018, will no longer be available for Nigeria n passport holders. The decision was reportedly made due to security concerns and the increasing rate of illegal immigrants from Nigeria .
The UAE government stated that 19 other African countries are also excluded from the visa coverage, but did not disclose the names of these countries. However, they reiterated that the visa covers all countries of the world and is open to all nationalities. The move is part of the UAE's plan to transform into a tourism hub and establish itself as a major tourist destination
