The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has elected Nigeria to fill a vacant position at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)...

The ECOSOC is led by the General Assembly and coordinates the economic and social work of the UN.It is also responsible for formulating policy recommendations as well as promoting international cooperation for development.

The Economic and Social Council has 18 vacant seats. Nigeria was the only country that got all the votes of the 191-member states. The 17 countries to serve with Nigeria include France, Germany, Haiti, Japan, Kenya, Liechtenstein, Mauritania, Nepal, Pakistan, Paraguay, Poland, Senegal, Spain, Suriname,Also, Türkiye was elected by member states in a by-election for a seat vacated by Greece.The member states also voted to fill the vacancy in the eastern European group.
