The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) clarifies that a power tripping incident at the Benin-Omotosho 330kV line caused a temporary disruption in electricity supply to the Lagos axis, not a national grid collapse.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria ( TCN ) has denied reports of a national grid collapse earlier on Saturday. While media reports claimed a blackout due to grid failure, the TCN stated that the incident was a mere power tripping at the Benin-Omotosho 330 kilo volt (kV) line. The tripping occurred at 13:41 Hrs, affecting bulk supply to the Lagos axis. Total generation on the grid before the tripping was 4,335.63MW, and after the trippings, it was 2,573.23MW, indicating no collapse.
The trippings affected Egbin, Olorunsogo, Omotosho, Geregu, and Paras power plants, but all have been restored except for the Benin Omotosho 330kV line. The TCN emphasized the importance of accurate information, highlighting the negative impact of misinformation and the need to disseminate true and verifiable facts
