Nigeria62: A dream or nightmare?

As a nation that has enough natural resources to foster and propel the development and growth of its citizens, it is expected Nigeria would be amongst the fastest developing or developed countries in the world but sadly, the reverse is the case with 62 years of being an independent nation.

Nigeria can be said to be slow in making notable improvements and development in the areas of technology and innovation, education, infrastructure, sports, youth development and resource management among others. To quote my brother S.A Olagoke on his view of Nigeria. He opines: “Nigeria is like a man that does everything and lacks but he seems to be suffering and in serious pain.” 62 years down the line our educational system is in shambles .

The Academic Staff Union of Universities recently called off an eight-month strike due to disagreement in payment methods and salary increments and this has delayed a lot of students from graduating. No Nigerian university is among the top 500 in the world making our certificates invaluable in the world market.

Undoubtedly, Nigerian youths are one of the most brilliant and innovative in the world but no proper system or structure is put in place to develop these skills as they are forced to seek support from abroad which results in massive migration for a better life.
