The Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has assured teachers that the lawmakers will come up with legislations to improve education in the state. Sarkindaji stated this while delivering his goodwill message during the 2023 World Teachers Day celebration with theme: 'The Teachers We need For Education We want: The Global Imperative
To Reverse Teacher Shortage', in Minna. He explained that the law will concentrate on the areas that affects the welfare of teachers, adding that the narrative that teachers' reward is in heaven has greatly affected the standard of education. According to him,'rather than paying lip service to the welfare of teachers, let us give teachers their reward on earth for the good of our education that's the only way to improve the standard of education in the country.
Recall the Nigeria Union of Teachers Niger State chapter had raised the alarm over mass exodus of qualifed teachers from the state, allegedly due to poor remuneration, lack of adequate welfare and teaching materials and decayed educational infrastructure, among others, in the state.
