September 9, 2022, at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, NV. MMA legend Nick Diaz is headed back to the UFC. Per Alex Behunin of MMA Mania, Diaz is scheduled to fight Vicente Luque at UFC 310 in December.
Diaz is now 41. The Stockton, California native hasn’t fought since he was forced to retire in his corner against Robbie Lawler in September 2021. Diaz hasn’t won a fight in 14 years. His last win came in 2011 when he won unanimously over BJ Penn.against Anderson Silva at UFC 183 on January 31, 2015 It’s unclear why Diaz is electing to return, but he’ll climb into the Octagon with a veteran striker in Luque.
The matchup is likely the product of mutual respect between Luque and Diaz, as the former doesn’t appear to have anything to gain. Both men are legendary figures in the MMA community, but well passed their primes. The only seemingly official fights have Dominick Reyes facing Anthony Smith and Tatiana Suarez vs. Virna Jandiroba.
