Stories on opposition to the new majority leadership of the national assembly by the All Progressives Congress (APC), dominate the front pages of the dailies today.
The Punch reports that Abdullahi Adamu, the national chairman of the APC, has protested the new leadership of the national assembly announced by Godswill Akpabio, senate president, and Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house of representatives. The newspaper says APC has faulted opposition parties for kicking against claims by the Independent National Electoral Commission that BVAS deployment during the 2023 election recorded 98 percent success.
The Nation says the presidency and APC governors are in support of the principal officers of the national assembly announced on Tuesday. The newspaper reports that INEC is set to file charges against Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the suspended resident electoral commissioner of Adamawa. Daily Trust says the Indigenous People of Biafra enforced its sit-at-home order in Ebonyi state. The newspaper reports that the Nigeria Customs Service has not received any formal directive from President Bola Tinubu to re-open additional borders.
THISDAY reports that Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, said the outcome of the 2023 election is a fair reflection of Nigeria’s multi-party democracy. The newspaper says Olukayode Egbetokun, acting inspector-general of police , has ordered the deployment of 35 commissioners of police to state commands. Vanguard reports that the Enugu state government has warned traders and businesses that they risk closure of their enterprises if they obey IPOB’s sit-at-home order. The newspaper says INEC has engaged 427 lawyers to prosecute 215 electoral offenders.
