A report by Sahara Reporters indicates that President Bola Tinubu has plans to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra , Nnamdi Kanu.

According to the report, Kanu would have regained his freedom, but for the forthcoming governorship election in Imo state. Sources in the presidency quoted in the report said Tinubu would have ordered the release of Kanu, but he was advised against doing so at this time by some politicians close to him.

SaharaReporters learnt that Tinubu was advised to hold on till after the Imo state governorship election scheduled for November 11, 2023, as Kanu’s release before then could have political implications in the southeast region.“They claimed to Tinubu that his release might affect the election in Imo, so the president waited.”

Kanu, who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Security, was arrested in Kenya and extradited to Nigeria by the immediate past administration of Muhammadu Buhari.BREAKING: President Tinubu Pulls FCTA Out of TSA, Approves Civil Service Commission
