New COVID-19 May Have Emerged In Summer 2019 – Study
A surge in hospital visits and internet searches related to COVID-19 symptoms from the Chinese city of Wuhan suggests the coronavirus may have been circulating since August 2019, according to a preliminary study by researchers at Boston University and Harvard.
The new paper, which has not yet appeared in a peer-reviewed journal, comes under the relatively new field of “digital epidemiology.” Because queries for the word “cough” rise along with yearly influenza seasons, they also looked for “diarrhea” which is a more COVID-19 specific symptom.
