Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has directed the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to immediately disconnect some

In a statement, the agency also called on interested persons for its electricity metering installation personnel certification, electrical installation contractors certification, renewable energy installation personnel certification and electrical technical personnel certification programmes.

“By the law establishing NEMSA, the agency is authorised to among other things, enforce compliance with the technical standards for all electrical installations, electrical plants, including power plants and ancillary systems; electricity networks and connectivity to the grid, provide sustained technical inspection, testing and certification of all electrical materials, or equipment, power systems, networks , or electrical installations to be used in the power sector, to ensure a stable system...

The agency said in a statement sign by Mrs Ama Umoren, for Public Affairs, “NEMSA has pursuant to the provisions of the NEMSA Act, 2015 issued enforcement notice to the management of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company against the DISCOs “incessant flagrant disregard for technical standards in contravention of the NEMSA Act, and the Nigerian Electricity Supply and Installation Standards Regulation 2015, which NEMSA is mandated to enforce pursuant to section 6 of the NEMSA Act.

The Agency has also called for applications from interested persons for its Electricity Metering Installation Personnel Certification, Electrical Installation Contractors’ Certification, Renewable Energy Installation Personnel Certification and Electrical Technical Personnel Certification programmes.

According to the agency, the key objective of the certification is to ensure that only skilled, experienced and competent electrical installation personnel and corporate organizations whose technical capability has been duly tested and certified by NEMSA are allowed to carry out electrical installation works along the power value chain and utilization in the country in line with the provisions of the NEMSA ACT – 2015.
