The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano State Command, said it had intercepted 7.8 tonnes of illicit drugs in the state since the beginning of the coronavirus lockdown till date.
The Commander of the agency in the state, Ibrahim Abdul, disclosed this while addressing journalists on Thursday as part of activities to commemorate the 2020 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.Abdul explained that despite the lockdown imposed on the state and other parts of the country, the command was able to intercept over seven tonnes of illicit drugs being trafficked in the state.
The command, he noted, was able to intercept a Toyota SUV conveying 300 blocks of compressed cannabis sativa weighing 223kg on the Kano-Zaria Road. “Another vehicle was also intercepted along the Wudil-Bauchi Road loaded with compressed cannabis sativa weighing 283kg during the lockdown period,” he stated.
Abdul added that a syndicate dealing in cocaine was busted and two suspects were apprehended with 100 grams of the substance.All rights reserved.
