DAILY POST learnt that the NDLEA also seized 40 bottles of codeine, weighing a total of 0.4 litres, after storming drug joints in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The NDLEA boss in Ogun State, Ibiba Odili, disclosed that the operatives stormed various drug joints such as Mayas in Lafenwa, Odo-Eran in Obantoko, and Rounder, all in Abeokuta to make the seizures.“The gallant joint operatives seized a jaw-dropping 222.42 kilograms of Cannabis sativa, also known as marijuana, in one fell swoop,” she stated.
According to her, the operation has dealt a significant blow to drug traffickers in Ogun, interrupting their supply chains and destabilising their illegal business. While saying his joint forces discovered 40 bottles of codeine, Odili said it highlighted the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs. Odili disclosed that the joint operation was in collaboration with men of the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps , describing it as the fourth phase of the NDLEA mopping-up and counter-narcotic intelligence operations against illicit supply and abuse of drugs in Abeokuta.
