June 7, 2023 12:09 PMThe National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says the ongoing promotion exercise for officers was conducted to motivate the workforce.

In a statement on Wednesday, Femi Babafemi, NDLEA spokesperson, said the promotion exercise was not lopsided as claimed by some reports. Babafemi said over 70 percent of the officers have remained in one rank for about 15 to 20 years, adding that most of them were promoted after Buba Marwa, chairman of the agency, assumed office in 2021.

“The attention of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has been drawn to some online reports suggesting lopsided promotion of personnel. The Agency wishes to state that no such thing exists as elevation of officers and men remains an ongoing exercise based on a number of factors including vacancy,” the statement reads.

According to the statement, “anyone not yet affected can rest assured that the chairman/CEO considers their welfare paramount and central to the successes so far achieved by his leadership and will continue to pay attention to their career progression”.
