The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Saturday said the coronavirus disease is not a “severe form” of malaria,The NCDC said though the novel virus presents similar symptoms to malaria, it is not m
alaria, thereby advising the public to observe the preventive measures announced by the Centre to curb the spread of the pandemic.
Responding to Frequently Asked Questions, the Centre tweeted, “Though COVID-19 presents symptoms similar to malaria, for example fever, the diseases are caused by different organisms and differ in mode of transmission. COVID-19 is not malaria.” Meanwhile, the Centre reported on Friday night that 627 new coronavirus infections were reported in the country, bringing the total confirmed cases to 15,181 including 399 associated deaths.
It said, “On the 12th of June 2020, 627 new confirmed cases and 12 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours. “Till date, 15181 cases have been confirmed, 4891 cases have been discharged and 399 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.“The 627 new cases are reported from 23 states- Lagos, FCT, Abia, Borno, Oyo, Rivers, Edo, Gombe, Ogun, Plateau, Delta, Bauchi, Kaduna, Benue, Ondo, Kwara, Nasarawa, Enugu, Sokoto, Niger, Kebbi, Yobe, Kano.”
