Handing over the vessel yesterday, at its jetty, Executive Officer, Nigerian Navy Shipyard, NNS Delta, Captain Adeyemi Adewuyi said the vessel was arrested with eight crew members on March 15, this year.“MV Mama Elizabeth I, was arrested for conveying product without approval. This morning, we have been directed to handover the vessel and the crew members, including the Captain to the EFCC for prosecution,” he said.

He enjoined those behind maritime crime to refrain from it, stressing that the Navy will not relent in its war against oil theft and related crime. Principal Detective Superintendent Benin Zonal office of EFCC, Mr Richard Ogberaga said “We will investigate, look at the source, prosecute.” One of the suspects, who described himself as Captain of the vessel, Mr ThankGod Ojuyaima told newsmen that he was not aware the vessel was convening illegal product.
