The Federal Government on Sunday said its new National Forest Policy would boost current efforts of addressing various climate change challenges across the country.
It said the policy, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday, would assist in the sustainable management of Nigeria’s vast forest resources.
The Minister of Environment, Mahmood Abubakar, disclosed said this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Director, Press, Federal Ministry of Environment, Saghir el Mohammed. In the statement titled ‘New National Forest Policy to preserve ecosystems – Environment Minister’, Abubakar said before the approval of the NFP, it was subjected to reviews by various stakeholders.
He said the policy was endorsed and adopted by the National Council on Environment in November 2019 after the NCE assessed its benefits. Abubakar said the new policy was anchored on the need for continuous socioeconomic development in a sustainably managed environment that would contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.All rights reserved.
