The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has called on security agencies to swiftly deploy personnel to Mararaba Udege to address the escalating violence that has claimed dozens of lives and resulted in widespread property damage.

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged security agencies to swiftly deploy personnel to Mararaba Udege in Nasarawa LGA to quell the ongoing violence that has resulted in the deaths of dozens and widespread property damage. Speaker of the House, Danladi Jatau, issued this appeal during a plenary session in Lafia following a presentation by Onarigu Onah Kana, representing Udege/Loko Constituency, who highlighted the issue under Matters of Public Interest.

Jatau expressed deep concern over the continued killings among members of the Afo tribe, characterizing the violence as a tragedy driven by 'worldly matters'. He passionately emphasized the sanctity of human life and called for immediate action to restore peace and security in the region. 'We urge security agencies to mobilize their officers to Mararaba Udege without delay to halt the killings,' Jatau stated. 'We also appeal to Governor Abdullahi Sule to collaborate with military authorities to establish a military base in the area to ensure lasting peace,' he added. The Speaker commended Governor Sule's ongoing efforts to promote peace and security and appealed to the warring factions to put aside their differences for the sake of unity and development. Onarigu Kana provided a harrowing account of the situation in his constituency, reporting daily violence that has resulted in the deaths of innocent people and the destruction of property. 'The killings must stop,' he implored, urging the House to support measures to end the crisis. Other lawmakers, including Solomon Akwashiki, Abel Yakubu Bala, and Abdullahi Ibrahim Sa’ad, echoed Kana's concerns. They condemned the senseless violence among members of the same tribe and called on security forces to intensify their efforts to protect lives and property. The conflict in Mararaba Udege reportedly began in December 2023 between the Eben and Angazo communities of the Afo tribe and has since escalated to involve the Eki and Ambu clans. The violence has claimed over 40 lives and displaced many others
