The leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students , Oyo State have called for a mass action over the increasing occurrences of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa.
In a statement released, NANS Chairman, Oyo State, Asubiojo Olujuwon said, the association “cannot seat idle and watch as Nigerians in the diaspora are being exposed to harsh treatments and risk of their dear lives”. The association therefore called on all Nigerian students in Oyo state, neighborhood-states, civil liberty organisations, global sympathisers and all concerned fellows to troop out and joins the mass action on Thursday, September 7, saying that “an injury to one is an injury to all”.“We shall be grieving in procession to the Federal Secretariat, Ikolaba, Ibadan to express our sad concerns and awake the consciousness of Nigerian government to rescue our dear fellows in South Africa,” he added.
The association however berated the government for the persist attacks without any serious or definite move by both South African and Nigerian government to rescue Nigerians out of the devastating situation. Months ago, the association had earlier visited South Africa businesses in Nigeria to register their displeasure over the unfortunate attacks on Nigerians.
