Obi also urged the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and commercial banks to speed up efforts to make the new Naira notes available to small depositors and unbanked Nigerians.The former Anambra State governor made the statement on Sunday in a post via his verified Twitter handle.
Many have called for the extension of the deadline for the swap of the old Naira notes with the new notes by the apex bank, but the CBN insisted on the February 10 deadline it had set. He wrote, “The currency redesign is not peculiar to Nigeria. It is an exercise that comes with some inconvenience and pain, but it has significant long-term economic and social benefits.
