NAFDAC discovered a warehouse filled with expired foreign drugs and various supplements in Abia State. The operation resulted in the arrest of some suspects, while the main suspect remains at large.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control ( NAFDAC ) has taken action against the circulation of counterfeit and expired drugs in Abia State . During a recent operation in Umummeje, Osisioma LGA, NAFDAC officials discovered a warehouse brimming with foreign pharmaceuticals past their expiration dates. Along with various supplements, the warehouse contained an alarming quantity of expired medications.

NAFDAC's South East zonal Coordinator, Martins Iluyomade, led the operation, which involved collaboration with the Nigerian Army, DSS, Police, and other relevant agencies. Iluyomade revealed that the suspect responsible for running this illegal operation had fled to an undisclosed location to evade arrest. The warehouse contained evidence of repackaging and rebranding, including a specialized machine used to disguise the expired products. Some individuals involved in the operation were apprehended, but the main suspect remains at large. Iluyomade expressed deep concern about the sale of counterfeit and expired medications, stating that it directly contributes to the increasing number of cases involving kidney and other vital organ damage. He commended the Presidency and Governor Alex Otti for their unwavering support in NAFDAC's ongoing fight against the distribution of substandard and harmful products
