The money laundering trial of Ali Bello, nephew of the Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, and three others, was on Tuesday stalled at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court. This followed the absence of Ahmed Raji, SAN, the lead counsel for the defendants. The suit was filed against Mr Bello and others by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the News Agency of Nigeria reports. Mariam Ediawe, a lawyer, who held Mr Raji’s brief, said she was indisposed.
Mr Bello was on February 8 arraigned alongside Abba Adauda, Yakubu Siyaka Adabenege and Iyadai Sadat on 18 counts before Mr Egwuatu.
The other defendants in the case are Abba Adauda, Yakubu Siyaka Adabenege, Iyada Sadat and the Kogi First Lady, Rashida Bello.When the matter came up on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, the prosecution, led by Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, called their first witness Mr Nicholas Oyemomoni from the American International School, Abuja.
When the hearing resumed on Tuesday, May 30, Ms Ediawe informed the court that the defence team filed an application on May 26.
