Justice Muhammad Lawu Lawan of the Yobe State High Court has sentenced the Yobe State Auditor General for local government, Alhaji Idris Yahaya, to five years’ imprisonment for misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N19.9million. Yahaya was arraigned before the court by the Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count of criminal misappropriation to the tune of N19,900,000.

Confirming Yahaya’s conviction, EFCC in a statement on Monday after the court judgment stated that “Alhaji Idris Yahaya, the Auditor-General for Local Government, Yobe State, is to spend five years in prison, following his conviction today, Monday, March 13, 2023, by Justice Muhammad Lawu Lawan of the Yobe State High Court.
