The Chairman, Board of Trustees, Project Victory Call Initiative, known as PVC-NAIJA, Dr Bolaji Akinyemi, shares with AYOOLA OLASUPO his thoughts on the 10th National Assembly leadership tussle and other national issuespeople have described the ninth Assembly as a rubber stamp, while some have pointed out that the Assembly passed very outstanding bills, like the Electoral Act, the Petroleum Industry Bill, etc.
Some persons have argued that the party and President Bola Tinubu naming their preferred candidates for the leadership positions would help their working relationship while some insist it would make the beneficiaries to be subservient to the executive. What do you think? Some senators are working against the candidacy of Godswill Akpabio, who is the preferred candidate of the APC. It is said that the outgoing President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, is not in support of Akpabio, what are your predictions on the outcome of the leadership contest on the day of the inauguration?
Whoever emerges among them, do you see this 10th Assembly doing things differently from those before it, in terms of sensitivity to issues that concern Nigerians, reduction in the cost of governance and the courage to put in place the checks and balances expected of the legislature? An Assembly that will cater for the needs of their people, and up their game in national consideration to strengthen our unity; one that will put the eagle eye on the Customs Service as the only paramilitary agency whose duties impact on the economy more than any other institution of government. We know the place of duty and monitoring of the economy. Excise duty and its management are important to our central economy.
