With the pandemic and lockdown, Nigerians brought to the fore their ingenuity by producing face masks, water/soap dispensers, sanitisers, personal protective equipment and ventilators. As a former bank executive, what would you say are some of the risks banks take that often put them in trouble? The simple answer is that most of them do not have bankable feasibility studies. Their proposed projects are not viable. Besides, they do not have acceptable collateral. Banks are financial intermediaries. As custodians of depositors’ funds, they must be careful how they grant loans; otherwise, they would run into crises.
