A desperate mother in Delta State, Nigeria, has confessed to selling her eleven-day-old baby for 600,000 Naira after being preyed upon by a vendor who exploited her financial hardship. Three suspects, including the vendor and the woman who bought the baby, have been arrested and are currently in police custody.

Rachael, the mother of an eleven-day-old baby, confessed to selling her child for 600,000 Nigeria n Naira (N600,000) after being lured by a vendor who exploited her desperation. The Delta State Police Command has apprehended three female suspects in connection with the incident. Rachael, a resident of Asaba, revealed that she was left to fend for herself after the child's father abandoned her during her pregnancy. She received support from neighbors and well-wishers until she gave birth.

However, eleven days later, a vendor approached her, promising assistance but eventually manipulating her into selling the baby. The vendor, who confessed to selling the child for 3.5 million Naira (N3.5 million) and giving Rachael 570,000 Naira (N570,000) after deducting 30,000 Naira (N30,000) she had previously loaned her, was also arrested. The third suspect, a Delta woman who purchased the baby, claimed to have paid 4 million Naira (N4 million). The Delta State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stated that all three suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime during a press briefing.Edafe expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of baby factories and emphasized the police's commitment to combating this issue. He highlighted a recent case where three women were apprehended attempting to transport three children to Abuja via Asaba International Airport. In this latest case, the recovered baby remains in the custody of the Delta State Police Command.
